NWAC & Under Armour Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 4
2019-04-17 15:04:07
JOHAH CALLAGHAN
SOPHOMORE • PITCHER
Jonah Callaghan, Naches Valley HS, Yakima, WA.
In his only start of the week, the sophomore lefty tossed a no-hit shutout against Big Bend. Callaghan was just one walk away from perfection but still managed to strike out 16 along the way. The complete game brings his season ERA down to 1.35 (6th in the NWAC).
"From early on in Jonah's (Jeb's) outing, I knew it was going to be special," said CBC head coach Brent Wyatt. "He was locating his fastball well and getting a lot of swing and misses. He only threw eight off-speed pitches the whole outing. That in itself just says how dominant his fastball was. He had a ton of movement and threw it where he wanted and mixed speeds well. Good things happen when a pitcher figures out how to change speeds with his fastball. It has been fun watching Jeb develop into the pitcher and young man that he is!"
NWAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK - APRIL 17
David Gibons, Redmond HS, Redmond, WA.
The two-way player did most of his damage from the batter’s box this week against division opponent Olympic. During the 4-game series, Gibons hit .412 (7/17) with 2 doubles and 2 home runs while driving in 8 runs helping Edmonds sweep the Rangers to gain sole possession of 2nd place in the North.
"Gibby had a great weekend," said Triton head coach Scott Kelly. "And he is showing why he is one of the best two way players in the NWAC!.
