Portland State basketball coach Tyler Geving has announced the signing of two student-athletes to national letters of intent for the 2014-15 season. The Vikings have added a pair of forwards in Collin Spickerman of Clark College and Braxton Tucker from North Idaho College.

Spickerman, a native of Portland who prepped at Jesuit High School, was the NWAACC West Region Most Valuable Player in 2013-14. The 6-8 forward was also named to the league's All-Defensive team while leading Clark to a 27-2 overall record.

Spickerman averaged 17.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocked shots per game for the Penguins. He shot .542 from the field and .722 at the free throw line. Spickerman spent his freshman season at Alaska Anchorage in 2012-13.

"With the loss of Kyle Richardson we needed to find someone who could replace him inside and Collin is that man," said Geving. "He brings something we are trying to add to our team, which is rebounding and defending the glass. We think Collin can step right in as a rebounder and be an offensive threat for us. His best attribute is his ability to block shots. He has great timing for a 6-foot-8 guy, he moves his feet well and can protect the rim for us.

"The other good thing is he comes from a great high school program in Jesuit. He was well-coached there, is a local kid and I am really impressed with his understanding of the game."

Braxton Tucker played his freshman season at North Idaho where he earned second team All-Region 18 honors for a 21-10 team. The 6-6, 220-pound Tucker averaged 14.8 points and 6.2 rebounds this past season. He shot .530 from the field and .638 at the line.

Originally from Tacoma's Spanaway Lake High School, Tucker will be a sophomore when he joins the Vikings in the fall.

"One thing we like about Braxton is that we are getting a junior college guy that we can have for three years here at PSU. When you have someone for that long it makes a difference in his development and contributions to the program.

"Braxton is another guy that is a great athlete. The biggest thing he adds for us is his ability to rebound and defend bigger guys inside. He fills a need of adding more size and depth to our front line."

Spickerman and Tucker join a Viking squad that went 17-15 in this past season. The Vikings reached the Big Sky Conference semifinals and were selected to participate in the Post-season Tournament.

The Vikings have nine returning letterwinners, three returning starters and also have three redshirts returning in 2014-15. Geving expects to sign two more student-athletes this spring.

Collin Spickerman, JR, F, 6-8, 210, Portland, OR (Jesuit HS/Clark College)
Braxton Tucker, SO, F, 6-6, 220, Tacoma, WA (Spanaway Lake/North Idaho JC)
