Umpqua Men's Basketball runs for UCC Strong
Roseburg, Oregon October 1, 2016: On Saturday, October 1st, the Umpqua Community College Men’s Basketball Team participated in the Umpqua Strong 9K run. The event marked the one year anniversary of the on-campus shooting that claimed nine lives, including former UCC Basketball player Treven Anspach of Sutherlin.
“We wanted to come out to represent the program, Treven, the college, and the community as best we could, and I know we did that”, said Head Coach Daniel Leeworthy.
Freshman guard Jordan Lehrer from Montana placed 9th in the 9K portion of the run.
“It was a great experience to see the community come together for something bigger than ourselves” said Lehrer.
The Umpqua Strong run had over 2,100 participants and raised $60,000 that will go to the UCC Foundation, funding memorial scholarships and creating an enduring legacy of education in honor of victims and survivors. The men’s basketball team was able to contribute a portion to the total amount raised.
