Columbia Basin alum Marissa Caballero captures PacWest Newcomer of the Year honors
Marissa Caballero was a second team All-East Region selection in 2015 for the Columbia Basin Hawks and a first team selection in 2016. She also earned sophomore Academic Excellence honors at CBC.
Caballero Named Newcomer of the Year, Three Argos Earn All-PacWest Honors
Caballero, a guard from Grandview, Washington had one of the best debut seasons in school history, leading the team in scoring at 16.3 points and assists with 3.4. She ranked 4th in the conference in scoring, 8th in assists and 3rd in free-throw percentage (84%). Caballero reached double figures in 22 games this season including a career high 30 points in win over Concordia Irvine. She became the first Argonaut to win Newcomer of the Year since Laura Zasly in 2011.
Tevez, a forward from San Jose also made an instant impact in her debut season at NDNU. She was the team's top all-around player, leading the team in rebounds at 8.2, steals with 73 and blocks with 11. Tevez is second in scoring at 14.5 points and second in assists with 2.6. She led the PacWest in steals at 2.7 per game while also finishing 12th in scoring, 9th in rebounding and 21st in assists. Tevez reached double figures 20 times and recorded six double-doubles.
Paine, a center from Portland, Oregon earned her way onto the All-PacWest Honorable Mention squad for the second straight season. This season, she finished third on the team in scoring at 13.3 points and second in rebounding with 7.7. Paine led the team in field goal percentage at 47% and finished third in assists at 2.0 per game. She reached double figures 18 times, including the first 13 games of the season while also recording six double-doubles.
The Argonauts finished the regular season with a 15-12 overall record while finishing fourth in the PacWest with 13-7 conference mark.
