Lane & Chemeketa at top of final 2010 basketball rankings
Vancouver, WA -- The final NWAACC Horizon Air -Coaches' poll has been released. Chemeketa men return to the top of the heap for the first time since the January 13th poll while the Lane women garner just enough to edge a one-loss Walla Walla squad on the women's side.
The teams represented in this poll are the coaches' favorites of the thirty-two teams (16 men & 16 women) that will square off on March 6-9th in Kennewick, WA to battle for the 2010 NWAACC Championships [view championship page].
The Chemeketa Storm (10-2, 20-2) picked up four number one votes and 72 points to take over the top spot from last week's #1 Tacoma Titans (21-2, 20-3). The Titans also grabbed four first place votes, but fell five votes shy of the Storms' overall total. Lower Columbia (12-3, 21-3) returned to number three after a few weeks at number four while Clackamas (9-3, 19-5) dips a spot to fourth. Walla Walla (10-3, 18-5) was the only team to make a re-entry in the final poll as they broke through big to sit at #6. [complete poll]
The Lane Titans (10-2, 21-3) picked up five first place votes over Walla Walla's three to edge the Warriors in total votes 68-67. The defending NWAACC champion Titans' only league loses are to third-ranked Clackamas (10-2, 19-4) and sixth-ranked Umpqua (10-2, 19-5) while the Warriors' (12-1, 23-1) only loss of the season has come at the hands of fourth-ranked Yakima Valley (12-1, 20-5). The bottom half of the top eight remain unchanged with the exception of Spokane (8-5, 16-8) who re-enter the poll at #8. [complete poll]
