Lane Women’s Basketball players sign Letters of Intent
Eugene, OR -- Lane Community College women’s basketball players Sarah Brolsma Whitfield and Lynette Minthorne are heading south to continue their collegiate basketball careers.
Brolsma Whitfield has signed a national letter of intent to play for Florida Gulf Coast University next season.
Brolsma Whitfield, who also starred at South Eugene High, will be a junior when she joins the Division I Eagles, a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Located in Fort Meyers, FGCU played in the Division II national championship game in 2008 and has advanced to the WNIT in its first two seasons at the Division I level.
Brolsma Whitfield, a 5-foot-11 guard, was named to the NWAACC’s all-Southern Region first team last season after she averaged 14.7 points and set a school record with 69 three-pointers. She becomes the fifth Lane CC player to sign a Division I scholarship in the past eight years.
Minthorn has signed with New Mexico Highlands University, a Division II school and a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Minthorn, a 6-0 forward, averaged 9.3 points and 6.7 rebounds last season.
Brolsma Whitfield and Minthorn are the second and third members of the 2009-10 team to sign basketball scholarships. Theresa Brown signed with The Masters College in November.
