Chris Plooy, who helped Dimond claim the 2009 state basketball championship and had a couple of high-scoring games this season at a community college in Washington, will join the UAA men's basketball team next season.
The signing of Plooy reunites two members of Dimond's 2009 state title team. Travis Thompson, a 6-0 guard who was Alaska's Class 4A Player of the Year this season, signed a letter of intent with the Seawolves last fall.
Plooy, a 6-foot-5 forward, was a first-team all-state player for the Lynx two seasons ago, and averaged 13.4 points and 4.8 rebounds a game this season for Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash.
Plooy shot 50 percent from the field and scored more than 20 points in five games for Green River, including a 30-point performance in a regular-season game against Centralia and a 29-point outburst in a playoff upset of top-seeded Shoreline.
Plooy will have three seasons of eligibility with the basketball team and four seasons with the track team. Though he didn't compete in track at Green River, Plooy won the 2009 state high school triple jump title for Dimond and is a 6-6 high-jumper.
Plooy is the fourth player to sign with UAA. Others include Thomson, Haines star Kyle Fossman and junior college transfer Mario Gill of Portland.
