Seattle Men's Hoops gives back to the community!

SEATTLE – The Seattle Community College (SCC) Men’s Basketball team hosted their 6th Annual Free Throws for a Cause event on November 13 at the North Seattle campus gymnasium.  The Storm, a self-supported athletic program, shot 100 free throws each to earn more than $2,500 in proceeds that went to benefit the YWCA's Adopt-a-Family holiday campaign. Last year, the Adopt-a-Family program(https://www.ywcaworks.org)  was able to help 1,100 families in the area, struggling to get through the holidays.

In the past, SCC has donated to the American Red Cross in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; the American Cancer Society to benefit breast cancer patients; the Seattle Children’s Hospital; Seattle King County Coalition for Homelessness and most recently, the Seattle Humane Society.  In the event’s six year existence, the Storm has earned more than $14,000, as well as donate their time to help others in a time of need.

Each year, Storm Head Coach, Kyle Gray attempts to plant an altruistic seed in his student-athletes and show them what it means to give back to their community.  "It's important for them see the world as it is outside of the classroom and the court . . . they need to know that even a little effort can make a big difference in someone else's life. I hope this is something they can carry with them after they leave our program," Gray notes.
