Spokane men and Columbia Basin women top the charts in the latest Horizon Air - Coaches Poll
Vancouver, WA -- The latest rankings in the Horizon Air / Coaches Poll have been released.
Spokane's men have made the biggest impression on the voting coaches despite their 8-4 start. The Sasquatch's last action was just before the holiday period where they won the Mt Hood Crossover, including a solid 76-69 win over fourth-ranked Tacoma.
Previous poll's top-ranked Whatcom, who slips to #2 this week, also won a crossover title at Lower Columbia with a 81-74 over the sixth-ranked Red Devils, but suffered a December 30th home loss to #5 ranked Highline in overtime 83-84.
After going 0-2 to kick off the season, Clackamas has won two straight tournaments, including a tough home win over #4 Tacoma 79-76 to improve its record to 8-3 and a #3 ranking this week.
Rounding out the top four is Tacoma who have played a strong schedule, compiling an 8-2 along the way including last night's 76-70 win over West Region foe #6-ranked Lower Columbia.
Not much changed in the top end of the Women's poll with Columbia Basin, Clackamas and Walla Walla holding in the top three positions. Yakima Valley made the biggest leap in the rankings as they jump from eighth two weeks ago to fourth this week. Perhaps the Yaks' biggest impression victory was a huge 87-65 win over previous #4 Lane Titans at the Chemeketa Holiday tourney last week.
Undefeated and top-ranked Columbia Basin continues to put up quality wins, including victories over top four ranked teams Walla Walla and Yakima Valley.
Second-ranked Clackamas have racked up double-digit wins in nine of their eleven contest, with its only loss by a two point margin against #5 Lane.
At 9-2, Walla Walla continue to hold the number three spot despite losing its last two games to top-ranked Columbia Basin in overtime and more recently to NJCAA third-ranked powerhouse North Idaho College.
