Auburn's Cummings to be inducted into WIBCA Hall of Fame

Oct 20, 2011 -
The Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (WIBCA) has selected Tim Cummings, Auburn School District assistant superintendent, to be inducted into the WIBCA Hall of Fame.

Cummings and five other inductees will be honored during the WIBCA banquet in July 2012 in Tacoma.

Cummings led the Auburn High boys to 18 winning seasons, three North Puget Sound League Championships and two West Central District Championships between 1972-1976.

Thirteen boys' basketball teams under Cummings' leadership qualified for district and three teams qualified for state. Cummings' record at Auburn was 332-132.

Cummings also coached track and field at the school and served as a vice principal. In 1990 he became the district athletic director. Cummings created a life course for students that is still used in the district today. Cummings has served as assistant superintendent for nine years.

Cummings attended Renton High School and won two state titles as a guard under coach Irv Leifer in 1966 and 1967.

He pursued his education at Green River Community College and helped the team win a NWACC title before transferring to play for the University of Idaho.

Cummings graduated with a degree in physical education. He also holds a masters in physical education from Idaho.

Before coaching in Auburn, Cummings was the boys basketball coach at Moscow High School.
