Tacoma star Mark McLaughlin leads the nation in scoring

Tacoma sophomore guard Mark McLaughlin finished off the regular season last Saturday with the nation's highest scoring average in the community college ranks at 28.4 points per game.

Demarius Miller (27.6 ppg) of  Morton College and JaMario Clayton (27.2 ppg) of Ocean City College were the two highest from the NJCAA while Stephon Lamar (21.9 ppg) of San Diego City CC was the highest scorer in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA).

Tacoma head coach Carl Howell has been impressed with McLaughlin's all-around game, "Mark is a pure scorer, he is a good 3-pt shooter, has a great midrange game & is a very good post up player for a guard. He is very unselfish, It is rare to see a player average 28.5 ppg and also lead your team in assists. In my opinion he is the most complete scorer I have seen in my time in the NWAACC."

Undoubtedly McLaughlin has been courted by several NCAA Div I schools. Added Howell, "Bob Huggins from West. Virginia  is flying out to see him Wednesday at practice and Gonzaga, Washington, Oregon State, Hawaii, Boise State, Portland State & many others have been to several TCC games."

There will likely be more scouts on hand as Tacoma takes on Walla Walla in the opening game of the 2012 NWAACC Basketball Championship tournament March 3-6 in Kennewick, WA.
