Yakima Valley's Brandi Henton signs with Boise State

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women’s basketball head coach Gordy Presnell announced today the addition of Brandi Henton (Modesto, Calif.) to this year’s recruiting class after a national letter of intent with the Broncos. Henton comes to Boise State from Yakima Valley Community College in Washington where she spent one season after transferring from Long Beach State. During her one season with the Long Beach State 49ers the junior-to-be was named the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2011. The addition of Henton brings Presnell’s total number of recruits for next year to five.

“I thinks it’s a testimonial to what kind of player she is,” YVCC coach Cody Butler said. “She only played nine games and still gets to play at the Division I level.”

“Brandi is a game changer!" said BSU head coach Gordy Presnell. "She is a very gifted player and we are excited that she is a Bronco!”

She shot 50 percent (87-174) from the court and 41 percent (29-70) from beyond the 3-point arc.

While at Long Beach State during Henton’s freshman campaign she was named Big West Conference Freshman of the Year, Big West All-Freshman Team and honorable-mention All-BWC. Henton averaged 12.5 points (2nd team / 10th BWC), 4.6 rebounds (2nd team), 1.6 assists (3rd team) and 1.4 steals in 24 minutes per game. She shot 38.3 percent (133-347) from the floor, 30.1 percent (41-136) from the arc and 71.9 percent (82-114) from the free-throw line.

Brandi is a 2010 graduate of Modesto Christian High School in Modesto, Calif., where she earned four letters in basketball. She helped guide the Crusaders to three Sac-Joaquin Section championships and four Trans Valley League titles. Named the CIF Division IV Player of the Year, as well as garnered all-state, All-CIF, all-league honors and was a McDonald’s All-America nominee. Henton established a school record for points scored in a game with 32 and finished her senior season averaging 21.6 points per contest. She also lettered two years in track and soccer.
