OREGON CITY -- Congratulations to Brett Ball, selected to receive the 2011-12 Red Lion Scholarship as the top scholar athlete in the NWAACC. Ball, with a 3.97 GPA, was selected from scores of male and female applicants from among the thousands of athletes that compete at 35 colleges throughout the NWAACC. The award will be presented at the NWAACC Hall of Fame Banquet in Pasco, Washington on May 31. The honor also comes with a $1,000 scholarship award.
“ I want to thank the NWAACC and the Red Lion for this scholarship,” said Ball. I am truly honored; there are some many great student athletes, men and women, throughout the NWAACC. I also want to thank my team, coaches, and instructors at CCC for all their support. I plan to use the award for books and supplies at Carroll College next year. This is a great honor and I truly appreciate it.”
Ball is the second player from the CCC program to be awarded this prestigious honor; Wes Jensen won the award in 2005, then went on to a sensational career at Adams State University and is now a law enforcement officer in Wichita, Kansas.
Ball is completing his associate’s degree this term and has signed a basketball scholarship to compete at Carroll College in Montana next year.
“We’re thrilled for him,” said assistant coach Brian Stamme. “He has such a great work ethic in the weight room, the classroom, and on the court. He will do a great job continuing to play ball and get his next degree.”
