Yakima Valley to Honor Ellwood Crosier

Court to be renamed Crosier Court on September 13

On September 13th, Yakima Valley will honor former coach Ellwood Crosier by renaming the gym court to Crosier Court. Crosier served at Yakima Valley for 37 years as psychology instructer, head men's basketball coach and head women's basketball coach.

During his coaching career, Crosier won a total of 523 games in 24 seasons.

Crosier graduated from Wapato High School then attended and played basketball at Yakima Valley. As a player, he was named the team's Most Inspiration Player in 1953 and 1954. After graduating from YVCC, Crosier earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Washington.

Crosier returned to Yakima to assist Sherar with the men's basketball program in 1958. He became the team's head coach in 1964. He won two NWAACC championships in 1966 and 1976.

He served as the women's basketball head coach and compiled a 231-88 record including back-to-back championships in 1990 and 1991.

Crosier retired from the college in 1995.

The dedication of the Yakima Valley court will take place Thursday, September 13th. The program begins at 3:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.
