Basketball Players of the Week
Freshman guard Xavier Bazile came up big last week against No. 6 Whatcom, hitting for 28 points on 10 of 18 field goals including four of eight from long range to lead the No. 2 Peninsula Pirates to an 82-79 victory. Brazile, who is originally from Tacoma, Wash., currently leads Peninsula in scoring with 19.5 points per contest, good for 12th in the league overall.
Nominator's comments: "Xavier consistently hit big shots leading us to victory in our conference opener versus last year’s North Division Champion, #6 Whatcom Orcas. Xavier also matched up with Whatcom’s leading scorer defensively holding him 7 points below his average while limiting him to 30% FG’s."
The rave reviews of the coaches, both home and away, are hardly enough to capture exactly what sophomore guard Riley Holsinger managed to pull off last week against No. 5 Big Bend. Holsinger finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 11 blocks and 10 assists. We call that a quadruple-double in the world of basketball, folks. A quadruple-double.
Nominator's comments: "She ate us alive on Saturday. She had a quadruple-double night! I've never before seen it at this level, men's or women's basketball."
