Basketball Players of the Week - Week 9
NWAACC Men's Player of the Week
Anthony Heintzman is one of those players that made all the right plays at the right time this last week. Down three to Linn-Benton with less than a minute remaining in regulation, Heintzman drilled a three pointer from the corner to send the game to overtime. SW Oregon won that thriller of a game [story], and turned a round a few days later to face No. 7 Chemeketa. In that contest, Heintzman put up a season high 28 points and took two charges to help SW Oregon get the victory, their third in a row.
Nominator's comments: "Anthony score 19 points in an overtime win vs. Linn-Benton, hit a three point basket to send the game to overtime. At Chemeketa Anthony scored 28 points and took two charges in an 89-88 win."
NWAACC Women's Player of the Week
A team that had started to gain some traction, Wenatchee Valley fell on hard times in January, losing five straight to start Eastern Region play. In back to back nights, Sophomore forward Dani Bray did what she could to turn that around, putting up 14 points and five boards in a win over Treasure Valley, and a season high 27 points in a win over Blue Mountain. Looking ahead, the Knights will play Yakima Valley on January 30th, and a win in that game would tie for their longest win streak of the season.
Nominator's comments: "Dani was instrumental in our wins this weekend. She shot 60% from the field Friday and was 50% from the field on Saturday. She handled pressure with poise and was unselfish with the ball when needed."
