Lane's Levi Strandberg inks with California Maritime Academy
California Maritime Academy men's basketball coach Bryan Rooney has announced the commitment of Levi Strandberg for the 2013-2014 season.
Levi joins the Keelhaulers after an outstanding junior college career at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. Strandberg led the Titans to an impressive 21-10 record and a berth in the NWAAC basketball championships this past year.
During his two year career, the 6'7" Strandberg averaged nearly 10 points per contest and established himself as a versatile inside-out threat. As a sophomore, he shot 41% from three point range and 89% from the free throw line in addition to being one of the team's leading rebounders.
Prior to his time at Lane, Levi was a standout performer for Wilson High School in Portland, Oregon.
Coach Rooney elaborated on Strandberg's signing, "We are extremely excited that Levi is joining the Keelhauler family. He was an important part of a very good Lane team this year and his potential at Cal Maritime is immense. His passion and drive to do the things necessary to be successful in life have led him to Cal Maritime and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him," explained Coach Rooney.
Levi joins Cal Maritime as the program comes off the best season in school history as the Keelhaulers set the school record for wins with 25, won the California Pacific Conference tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
"I am very excited to come to Cal Maritime. I feel like it's a close family and they have done a great job of making me feel welcomed. Obviously the team has been successful and I am hoping to add to that success. Cal Maritime is a tremendous school and I am looking forward to starting the season and school year off right," commented Levi on his commitment to the Keelhaulers.
The 2013-2014 season begins as the Keelhaulers host Cal Maritime Invitational starting November 1st.
