NWAACC Basketball Players of the Week - Jan7

VANCOUVER, Wa. - The Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges has named its Basketball Players of the Week for January 7, 2014.

MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Dominique McClendonDominique McClendon, Everett
Freshman Forward


Dominique McClendon led Everett College (10-5) to a 111-88 win over North Region rival Shoreline College (3-9) to help the Trojans begin region play 1-0.

He shot an efficient 12-15 en route to 26 points in 25 minutes of action in both team’s region opener.

McClendon pulled-in six rebounds along with three assists, and one block with only one turnover. McClendon was perfect on two-point field goals (11-11), while adding one three-pointer on four attempts.

Earlier in the week, McClendon led Everett to the Clackamas Holiday Tournament championship behind a 29-point (12-20), 10-rebound championship game performance in a 109-90 win over Yakima. McClendon was selected to the All-Tournament team.

The Spokane, Washington native is 10th in NWAACC scoring with 20.6 points-per-game, 17th in rebounding (7.7), seventh in blocks (1.3), and ninth in free-throw shooting percentage (82.9%).

WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Aminata ColeAminata Cole, Southwestern Oregon
Freshman Forward

Aminata Cole opened Southern Region NWAACC play with 22 points on 9-18 shooting (4-4 FT) to go along with her 18 rebounds (7 offensive), six blocked shots, and three steals to help Southwestern Oregon (12-5) outscore Mt. Hood (2-12) 18-2 on second chance points en route to a 61-46 win over Mt. Hood.

The Juneau, Alaska native leads the NWAACC in blocks with 2.4 per-game, and in total blocks (36) to go along with her 15.8 points-per-game (13th overall), and 11.8 rebounds-per-game (3rd overall) averages on 51.3 % shooting on the season (20th overall).
