Comments: As she has done all season, Malia continues to lead her team to play at the top of their game. She pushes the others and shows great maturity. Malia made the Walla Walla Crossover All-Star team and led the Cougars in most categories.

Comments: Beth was our strongest all-around player at the crossover. She was our go-to hitter and played very consistently throughout the tournament. Beth had an impressive 66 for 67 serving and was selected to the all-tournament team.

Comments: Ashlee has been an offensive force for Spokane this week. She hit an impressive .356 for the entire week, with an outstanding match against Green River CC, where she had 15 kills and hit .800. Ashlee also passed a 2.26 in serve receive. She was a leader in every aspect this week.

Comments : Gwen went through a lot this week having lost a family member to cancer. She raised her level of play to the highest I’ve seen from her, and overcame, the obstacles in her path. She helped us defeat Highline and maintain a 6-0 record in region play and then was outstanding against Whatcom and Spokane at the crossover. She is a tenacious, passionate player who gives all she has every minute she plays.

Comments : Holly has improved her defensive game over the past two weeks. The largest piece of her game, that provides offense for us, is her serves! In our crossover tournament she had 9 ace serves in our victory against Linn Benton. With this kind of serving as well as her awesome digs, she has become a valuable part of our team.

Comments : The best passer defender I have coached, her serve reception vs Clark was .846, with 11 perfect passes, vs GHCC .875, 7 perfect passes, a digging machine, not only are her digs awesome the are always right on the money to set up our attack.

Comments: Sareena is from the very successful Eagle HS program. Despite our team losing this week Sareena dug in and did her job defensively. She was all over the court providing stability in serve receive and serving, as well as digging up a lot of balls.

NORTH REGION

Offensive Player of the Week:
Dani Barrett
, a Freshman at Whatcom Community College, earned the honor for her outstanding performance in matches against Capilano, Everett and Edmonds. Dani is an middle hitter, who had 29 kills in 52 attempts with a hitting efficiency of .4423. She also posted 8 stuff blocks. According to Head Coach Nate Langstraat; “Dani had an amazing week, averaging 3 kills per game with a 44.23% hitting efficiency from the middle position. In fact, in the match versus Edmonds, she had zero (0) hitting errors and ended the match hitting .500. Dani is an incredibly coachable player with a positive attitude and dynamic work ethic. These characteristics are paying off and Dani is certainly getting results for our team.”

Dani Barrett is the daughter of Bill and Dawn Barrett of Port Angeles, Washington and a graduate of Port Angeles High School. Dani is a Sport Fitness/Health major. Her academic goals include completing a degree so she can establish a successful career path in her early twenties.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Kristin DeHaan
a sophomore at Whatcom Community College earned the honor for the fourth consecutive week for her performance in matches against Capilano, Everett and Edmonds. Kristin led her team defensively. Kristin is a Libero, who had 36 digs, 41 serves and 4 aces in seven (7) games. According to Head Coach Nate Langstraat; “Kristin is doing a great job reading hitters and making defensive adjustments. Her confidence continues to grow each week, which shows through in her game. This past week, Kristin averaged over 5 digs per game and serve received with 96% efficiency. She is great leader on the court, in the classroom, and in our community.”

Kristin DeHaan is the daughter Brad and Sheryl DeHaan of Lynden, Washington and a graduate of Lynden Christian High School. Her academic goals include completing her AA and transfer to Western Washington University to pursue a degree in Business Design. Kristin career goal is to some day own her own business.

Notes: “In these 2 matchups we moved the line-ups around quite a bit. Brittney played in every line-up. She served her opponents off the court. She was consistent in every part of the game.”

NORTH REGION
Offensive Player of the Week:
Kristy White, a sophomore at Whatcom Community College, earned the honor for her outstanding performance in matches with Columbia Bible College and at the NIC tournament. Kristy is an outside/power hitter, who had 48 kills in 144 attempts with a hitting efficiency of .2778. She also posted 15 ace serves, 69 digs, and 4 stuff blocks. According to Head Coach Nate Langstraat; “Kristy display a very consistent level of play throughout this past week, posting 27.8% hitting efficiency with almost 3 kills per game. She is a very determined player with a competitive edge, which boosts our team to play better as a whole. Kristy is a ‘smart’ player, always mixing up her shots and keeping out opponents guessing.”

Kristy White is the daughter of Byron and Linda White of Bellingham, Washington and a graduate of Sehome High School. Kristy is a Physical Therapy/Exercise Science major. Her academic goals include achieving a doctorate in physical therapy. Her career goals includes opening her own practice specializing is sports-related injuries.

Defensive Player of the Week:
Kristin DeHaan a sophomore at Whatcom Community College earned the honor for the third consecutive week for her performance in matches with Columbia Bible College and at the NIC tournament. Kristin led her team defensively. Kristin is a Libero, who had 95 digs, 63 serves and 6 aces in seventeen (17) games. According to Head Coach Nate Langstraat; “Kristin continues to perform almost flawlessly in her defensive and service reception roles, averaging almost 6 digs per game. She is fearless and always hungry for the ball. Kristin really knows how to make defensive adjustments, how to build up her team mates, and how to lead through words and, more importantly, actions.”

Volleyball Northern Region Defensive Player of the Week

Kristin DeHaan, Whatcom

Kristin is a natural leader on the court who consistently raises her level of defensive play with each game. Averaging 5.71 digs per game this past week with very few errors, she has really established the core of Whatcom’s defense. Kristin also lent to a strong serve receive game, averaging a 2.71 score on a 3 point serve receive scale.
