Clark Wins Men's and Women's Southern Region XC Championships

Coos Bay, OR - The Clark Penguins swept the men's and women's Southern Region Championships Saturday. While the men's team won by a comfortable margin, the women's team squeaked one point past Lane to win the title.

The men's individual title was won by Mt Hood's Tahir Chakisso who traversed the 8k course in 26:42. He finished ahead of Clark's Cameron Falker and Nathan Richards. A pair of Clackamas runners, Brad Prettyman and Kyle Edwards rounded out the top five.

Lane took second in the men's team competition ahead of Mt Hood, Clackamas and SW Oregon.

Clark Head Coach Ryan Hovde was named the Southern Region Men's Coach of the Year.

In the women's individual race, Lane's MaCayla Claver won in 18:40, followed by Clark Briel Thoune and Mt Hood's Amanda Faggard. The team race came down to one-point between Clark and Lane and was decided between places 7 through 12 where there was only a 19 second gap separating seventh from 12th.

The Southern Region Women's Coach of the Year was John Scholl (Lane).

These teams will all line up at the NWAACC Cross Country Championships being held November 13 at Clackamas Communuty College.
