Alex Pounds (Coeur d’Alene High School, Coeur d’Alene, ID) had a very successful freshman year at the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS). The former High School State Champion and Idaho Junior Champion was a first-team all-league selection and the runner up by a single stroke in the NWAACC Championship Tournament, earning him first-team all-conference.
Alex had multiple top-five finishes and many rounds under par both in qualifying rounds and tournament rounds. Pounds won the Bandon Dunes Invitational posting a 71-74—145 on Old MacDonald and Bandon Trails golf courses.
Coach Kramer stated, “Alex is a tremendous player with a lot of talent. He is a great student and an even better person. Our loss is definitely the University of Idaho’s gain. We hate to see Alex go before his eligibility is up at CCS, but he is deserving of a spot on a successful NCAA Division I golf team. Alex had a goal of playing for the Vandals, and we couldn’t be happier for him that he was able to achieve his goal. I am confident that Alex will make an immediate impact for the University of Idaho and will have a very productive three years for their program.”
Alex joins Jason Azzarito (Gonzaga University) and Taylor Porter (Boise State University) as players who have recently moved on to compete at the NCAA Division I level for CCS. Tyler Johnson, Kyler Gable and Jason Molner (Lewis Clark State College), Corey Meyers (Whitworth University) and Sam Krause (University of Colorado at Colorado Springs) have all moved on to continue their careers after being standouts at CCS in recent years.
