A former YVCC athlete, Crosier was the basketball team's Most Inspirational Player in 1953 and 1954. He returned to his alma mater to coach basketball for a total of 24 years. Coach Crosier compiled a 292-204 record as men's coach winning NWAACC championships in 1966 and 1976 and had a 231-88 record as women's coach winning back-to-back NWAACC titles in 1990 and 1991.

Crosier retired as a senior faculty member in 1995 but continued to serve as women's assistant coach to his daughter Lynnette, who succeeded him as head coach in 1995.

In 2012, Yakima Valley Community College named the YVCC gym floor as Ellwood Crosier Court.
