Lane Community College, SW Oregon Community College
Class of 1991

Dale J. Bates served as the men’s basketball coach at Lane Community College for 18 years, and retired following the 1990-91 season. At Lane his teams compiled a record of 305-204 between 1973-1991; his overall college record is 416-262 over 30 years.

Bates came to Lane from Southwestern Oregon CC where he led the Lakers to a 111-58 record from 1967-1973.

Bates’ Lane teams were OCCAA champions four times (1975, 76, 78, and 1983), and he was recognized as OCCAA coach of the year following the 1975, 76, and 83 seasons.

Bates distinguished himself at Lane Community College with leadership roles in OAPHER, as director of Athletics, and a wide variety of NWAACC basketball committee roles.
