Helped start the winning tradition of Lower Columbia baseball as his 1970 team was the first in school history to win the NWAACC title. Served as LCC baseball coach between 1969-72 as his teams qualified for the NWAACC Tournament each year. Also coached the Red Devil basketball team in 1970-71 and 1971-72, placing sixth and fourth respectively. Went on to serve 22 years as head baseball coach at Oregon State University where he was Pac-10 Coach of the year five times. His Beaver teams won 613 games and five league titles before he retired in 1995.

He is a member of the Oregon State University Athletic Hall of Fame and Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
