Spokane's Men's Cross Country Wins Ninth Consecutive Championship

Battle Ground, WA- The Spokane Sasquatch took to the line Saturday afternoon as the odds on favorite to win their ninth consecutive title, and they did not disappoint. At the start, Clark's Shane Weldon bolted out to a decent sized lead ahead of a large pack containing all of the favorites for the individual title. Weldon stayed ahead of the pack for a mile or so before the pack responded.

As the pack sped to catch Weldon, the field started to thin out. Once Weldon was caught, only four runners remained in contention for the individual title. Defending champion Rigoberto Jimenez (Spokane), Anthony Brown (Spokane), Cesar Perez (Lane) and Travis Stevens (Lane) were all together going into the last mile of the race.

Somewhere in that final mile, Perez pulled away from the other three to win the race in 25:25. Brown was second followed by Stevens and Jimenez. Spokane's Sean Coyle, Daniel Issa and David Jacob were fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

Spokane's depth earned them 24 points whch was 28 points better than second place Everett. The Trojans were led by Yon Yilma who finished eighth.

Sasquatch Head Coach Sean McLachlan was named NWAACC Men's Coach of the Year.
