COOS BAY, OR -The Southwestern Oregon Community College Board of Education announced Monday in a meeting that they had completed their evaluation of Dr. Patty Scott, Interim President. Considering the results of her evaluation and her accomplishments, David Bridgham, Board Chair, conveyed to those in attendance that the Board concluded Scott had proved herself as the person to lead the college in the future in a permanent capacity.

"The decision was unanimous with every Board member in turn voicing their comments in support of Dr. Scott," said Bridgham.

Details were not announced, but a new contract would start when her current contract ends June 30, 2010.

"I am humbled, honored and excited to have the opportunity to continue to lead this great institution," Scott said following the meeting. "I am surrounded by incredible people throughout the district who do a wonderful job of teaching and serving our students every day."

Scott has been at Southwestern since 1993. She started out at Southwestern splitting time as the Director of Student Support Services and as a Counseling Faculty member. She was named Director of Educational Support Programs in 2002 and served as Dean of Students from February of 2006 until being named Interim President in October of 2008. During her tenure at Southwestern, Scott served a five-year stint on the Faculty Senate and spent three of those as chair.

After starting her higher education pursuit at Lane Community College in Eugene, Scott completed a bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Oregon. She went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Doctorate of Education in Community College Leadership from Oregon State University.

Scott is also very active in the community. She currently is a board member with both the South Coast Development Council (SCDC) and the Bay Area Hospital Foundation. She also serves as a facilitator for the Bay Area Ford Institute Leadership Program and is on the steering committee for Leadership Coos. Scott is also a Parks Commissioner with the City of Coos Bay, serves on the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board budget committee, and is a member of Rotary and Zonta service clubs.

"As we continue to grow as an educational district and community, I look forward to further enriching our current strengths and developing additional educational opportunities for our students and members of our communities," said Scott.
