Wednesday Game Previews - Lower Columbia vs Pierce Men & Umpqua vs. Linn-Benton Women

By Jon Sims, for the NWAC

MEN: LOWER COLUMBIA at PIERCE
View Broadcast (8:00pm)
Pierce will look to make up for their January 12th 89-80 loss to 2nd-ranked Lower Columbia and even the season series with their dominant 6’5” forward Hussayn Ford and their versatile guard Makaleb McInnis.

Ford is averaging 15.45 points and 9.4 rebounds while McInnis is averaging 13.4 points, 3.7 assists and 4 rebounds.

Even with big games from both Ford and McInnis this is no small task.

Lower Columbia is lead by 6’2” guard Keun Palu-Thompson who is averaging 17.1 points, 4.41 assists and 6.82 rebounds. While his forward counterpart 6’6” Devin Johnson averages 14.2 points and 9.23 rebounds.

In the last matchup Pierce led both squads in every statistical category except two: 3 pointers and free throws. 9 more 3’s made and 8 more free throws allowed for Lower Columbia to have a healthy win over Pierce despite being out rebounded and giving up 25 points off turnovers.

WOMEN: LINN-BENTON at UMPQUA
View Broadcast
(5:30pm)
The Umpqua womens team (20-2) is is looking to keep their 9 game win streak alive as they host Linn-Benton (12-9) tonight at 5:30.

Umpqua will be led by 6’4” forward Jordan Stotler who is averaging 24.56 points, 12.81 rebounds, 3.81 assists and nearly 4 blocks per game. Her play lead to a resounding 91-58 win over Linn-Benton on Jan 11.

The Roadrunners are led by 6’2” center Molly Aranda who is averaging 11.52 and 7.62 rebounds.

This “battle of the bigs” will require a solid performance on the glass and offensively from Aranda for Linn-Benton to overcome the dominant Stotler.

Umpqua completely controlled the glass in their first matchup. Grabbing 41 rebounds to Linn-Benton’s 28.

If Linn-Benton can shore up their rebounds and shoot with the consistency they’re capable of then they could give the top-ranked Riverhawks a run.
