2017 NWAC Menís Basketball Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight Recap

BRACKET

The Sweet 16 portion of the men’s basketball championship tournament started off with the shot heard throughout the Pacific Northwest as the Tacoma Titans knocked off the #1 ranked team in the NWAC, North Idaho College Cardinals.

The Titans overcame multiple double digit leads to defeat the Cardinals 86-81. Tacoma, the #4 seed out of the west did not stop there as again, overcoming a double digit lead they defeated the Peninsula Pirates (#2 seed from the north) in the Elite 8 75-64.

The upsets did not stop there as the Whatcom Community College Orcas defeated the #1 seed from the south Clark College Penguins in overtime 84-78. WCC defeated Everett Community College last Saturday night in a play-in game in order to squeek into the tournament.

Continuing the pattern of the day, the Saints from Mount Hood (#4 seed from the south) defeated the Shoreline Dolphins (north #1 seed) 74-71. MHCC overcame multiple double digit leads to take down a very athletic Dolphin team.

What seemed common in the tournament was that no number 1 seed was safe as was no double digit lead!

In the Elite 8, the fourth #1 seed, South Puget Sound, went down to the Umpqua Riverhawks 66-53. UCC thoroughly handled the Clippers to make their way to the Final Four.

The Warriors from Walla Walla Community College won a tough battle with Pierce College on a game winning shot with less than 3 seconds left -- then behind some incredible 3-point shooting defeated Whatcom Community College to move on to the Final Four.

West #3 seed Lower Columbia Red Devils knocked off the defending champions, #2 East seed Community Colleges of Spokane as well as the Mt. Hood Saints to fill out the Final Four bracket.

The Red Devils defensive and offensive execution helped propel the Red Devils to the Final Four.

Making up the Final Four Bracket will be from the Western Region, Tacoma Community College Titans who will take on the Southern Region Umpqua Riverhawks in the 6pm game.

The 8pm game will match East Region #3 Walla Walla Community College Warriors against West Region #3 Lower Columbia College Red Devils.
