Oregon City, OR -- Clackamas heavyweight Tyrell Fortune has been selected as a finalist for the 2009 Ad Rutschman Small College Athletes of the Year Award presented annually by the Oregon Sports Awards.

In 2009, Fortune won the NJCAA national championship at 285 pounds leading Clackamas to a third place national finish.  Fortune amassed a 23-0 record against junior-college wrestlers and went 32-2 overall, with a CCC-record 19 wins by fall. Fortune's championship performance earned him the Bruce Traphagen Award which distinguishes the wrestler with the most falls in the least amount of time. He also earned a spot on the 2009 Junior World Team in Turkey, as the only wrestler to compete in both freestyle (placing 7th) and Greco-Roman by winning the FILA Jr. National Championships at 211.5 lbs.

Prior to Clackamas, Fortune enjoyed a stellar prep career at Lakeridge and Park Rose high schools where he won a pair of Oregon championships and six Cadet and Junior National Freestyle and Greco Championships.

The finalists and winners will be announced at the 2009 Oregon Sports Awards show on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike World Campus in Beaverton.
