Heacock Update; Highline CC provides aid

January 16, 2010 -- Seattle, WA

CCC Volleyball players gather around Richelle

Update on Richelle Heacock from Coach Kathie Woods:

It has been two weeks since her accident on January 4th. Richelle is out of ICU much faster than medical staff originally thought.  She got out last Wednesday, the13th and is residing in a very nice, large room at Harborview Medical Center where she can have a lot of visitors.  (Best time is after rehab each day... which is done at 4pm, or on Sundays)  She will be there for about 4-6 weeks.  After that, they will determine whether she will need to stay there longer, go home, or to another rehab facility. She is still paralyzed from the chest down but can shrug her shoulders and lift her arms a little.  She cannot move her fingers yet but can feel you when you touch them.

She is determined to walk again and would appreciate all your prayers.  She has a positive attitude and a huge smile.  After all, she is a Cougar!

We (Clackamas CC) want to thank everyone for their generous donations and concern for Richelle and her family.  We also want to thank everyone who has donated to Richelle.

Highline CC Challenge
In a gesture that demonstrates the highest traditions of sportsmanship and the NWAACC as a family, Highline Community College has donated $1,000 to help the Heacock family and is hoping there are other NWAACC schools willing to match or beat their donation.
