Whatcom Community College Athletics is excited to announce that Daulton Lootens, a 6’6” forward on the men’s basketball team, has signed a Letter of Intent to play for the NCAA Division 2 Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks next season.

After redshirting his first year at Whatcom, Lootens has played a pivotal role in the program’s success the last two season. Lootens played a pivotal role as he came off the bench in his Redshirt Freshman season. That year, the Orcas made a deep run in the NWAC Tournament all the way to the championship game before falling to the Spokane Sasquatch.

This year, Lootens saw an increased role as he averaged 11 points and 7.5 rebounds. He helped lead the team to an 8-6 record in the NWAC North Region and 18-10 record overall. WCC finished 4th in the North and reached the Elite 8 of the NWAC Tournament for the second year in a row. In the first round, Lootens finished with 22 points and 9 rebounds as WCC pulled off the upset over the number 1 seeded Clark Penguins.

Lootens, a 2014 graduate of Lynden Christian High School, is excited to head north and get to work with Nanook head coach Mick Durham.

“I’d like thank Coach Rawlings and Coach Wade for a great season and I’m really excited to get started in Fairbanks”, Lootens said.  “It’s been a dream of mine to play at the four year level and I can’t wait get up there”.
