Pierce College Names Amber Coburn New Softball Skipper

Lakewood -- Amber Coburn has been named the new head coach for the Pierce College Softball program.

Coburn was a standout pitcher at Coeur d’Alene High School (ID), earning All-State honors for three years, and setting a state record with four shutout performances in state tournament play.

She went on to Delaware State University where she pitched for two seasons for the Hornets (2010 & 2011).

Prior to coming to Pierce, Coburn was the head coach at Emerald Ridge High School (Puyallup, WA) for two years, after serving on the coaching staff at Puyallup High School for two seasons.

Coburn replaces Mark Edmonston, who has joined St. Martin's University (Lacey, WA), as an assistant head coach.  Edmonston was 262-180 in ten seasons with the Raiders (.593 win percentage), making him the winningest coach in program history.

Amber said, "I feel incredibly honored to lead the Raider Softball program.  I am passionate about the game and the opportunity to develop student-athletes.  I look forward to my first year as a college coach here at Pierce, and my plan is to continue the efforts of what Coach Edmonston put into this program."

"We feel extremely fortunate to have Amber taking over the reins of the Raider Softball program," stated Athletic Director Duncan Stevenson.  "She has big shoes to fill, taking over for Coach E, but we feel she has the necessary tools and knowledge, as well as a love of the game to keep Raider Softball a competitive force in the NWAC.  We see Amber as one of the new up and coming coaches in the North Region."

Coburn grew up in Missoula, Montana, before her family moved to Idaho before the start of her sophomore year in high school.  Amber currently lives in Puyallup, WA.

The Raiders open the spring season in Pasco, WA, for the NWAC Pre-season Tournament on Feb. 24, 2018.
