Yakima Men Claim Final East Playoff Spot

Vancouver, WA - The Yakima Valley men's basketball team defeated Treasure Valley Friday night to secure the fourth and final spot from the Eastern Region. The Yaks won 87-76 and had four players with ten or more points. The Yak defense held the NWAACC team leaders in scoring at 96.3 PPG to only 76 points by forcing 17 turnovers.

In his fifth year as Yakima's Head Coach, Ray Funk will take his team to their third consecutive postseason appearance. In their previous two trips, the Yaks won the championship in 2008 and placed third last year. Overall, YVCC will make their 24th appearance in the postseason. They have won the championship four times.

The Yaks will bring a balanced offensive attack to the floor with four players averaging ten or more points per game. However, their defense leads the NWAACC in blocks with 106 and is fourth in steals averaging 11.83 per game.

The NWAACC Basketball Championships are being March 6-9 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, WA. For more information about schedules, hotels, merchandise and tickets, visit the championship page.
