Seattle University Softball inks Walla Walla's Leyland

Seattle, WA -- Seattle University head softball coach Dan Powers announced the signing of current Great Britain National Team member Natalie Leyland to a National Letter of Intent. The junior college transfer will join the Redhawks for the 2011 season.

"We are very excited about bringing Natalie into our program next season," said Powers. "She is an exciting player that can put pressure on defenses with her speed. We are looking for Natalie to come in and fill the void left by seniors Katie Antich and Katie Petersen in the outfield."

"Natalie is a triple threat at the plate with the ability to bunt, slap and hit for power. She will be a nice fit in the top half of our lineup next year and she represents another positive step forward in our transition into full Division I status," concluded Powers.

The Richland, Wash. native spent the last two seasons at Walla Walla Community College, where she was an NFCA All-American First Team for outfield selection and East Region First Team honoree. She was also named to the NWAACC All-Tournament Team. In 2009, she broke WWCC's single season records in both hits and stolen bases.

The outfielder was a 2008 graduate of Richland High School. At RHS, she was an All-State, All-Area and all-conference first team recipient in 2006 and 2008. As both a sophomore and senior, she was also named Offensive Player of the Year.

Leyland will enroll at Seattle U this fall, and plans on majoring in social work with a minor in Spanish.
