Everett Sweeps Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships

Everett men and women won both events and the combined co-ed titles

EVERETT, WA - The Everett Trojans won their first ever men's title and second women's title at the 2011 NWAACC Cross Country Championships held at Legion Memorial Golf Course in Everett, WA.

On the men's side, the Trojans prevented Spokane from winning 11th consecutive title by sweeping the top three spots and placing two others in the top ten. Everett's Bereket Piatt won the 8k race in 24:32 ahead of teammates Bryton Reim and Habtamu Rubio. The Trojans finished with 21 points, 28 ahead of second place Spokane.

On the women's side, Spokane's Mikel Elliott dominated the women's race winning in 18:07. She was followed by Lane's Gylany Crossman who finished 16 second back in 18:23. Everett won the team competition with a strong grouping of runners starting with their leading runner Katie Strong in sixth place. The scoring runners for Everett all finished in the top 18 which allowed them a narrow victory over Treasure Valley. The second place by Treasure Valley was their best ever. The title for Everett was their second in three years.

Everett's top finishes on both sides earned the them the combined co-ed title with Spokane finishing second.

Treasure Valley's Blas Guerra was named the Women's Coach of the Year and Everett's Matt Koenigs was name the Men's Coach of the Year.
