Highline CC grad selected by Real Salt Lake in MLS SuperDraft

Highline Community College alum Raphael Cox went to Real Salt Lake in the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft on Jan. 15.

Cox, a midfielder from Tacoma, Wash., helped lead the men's soccer team at Highline to its first Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championship title in 2004. He was also named to the NWAACC All-Star Team that year.

"Raphael came to Highline with the hopes of playing soccer professionally," said men's soccer coach Jason Prenovost. "He had a strong work ethic, along with great talent, and it doesn't surprise me about his success. I look forward to following him throughout his playing career and beyond."

Cox went to Salt Lake City's MLS team in the fourth round with the 54th overall pick.

Cox graduated from Tacoma's Stadium High School in 2004. After graduating from Highline in 2006, he spent three seasons playing for the University of Washington. Read More
