Former NWAACC Baseball Player named MLB General Manager

Former NWAACC baseball player Bud Black was named the General Manager of the San Diego Padres today. Black played baseball at Lower Columbia in 1976-77 and graduated from Mark Morris High School in Longview, WA, in 1975. For the past seven years, he worked as pitching coach for the Los Angeles Angels and helped them to a World Series title in 2002.

Black pitched 17 years professionally, including 15 seasons (1981-95) in major leagues. During that time, he posted 121-116 record with 32 complete games, 12 shutouts, 11 saves and 3.84 ERA (2053.1 IP - 876 ER) in 398 major league games.

He was originally signed by the Seattle Mariners in the 1979 free agent draft. During his career, Black appeared played for Seattle (1981), Kansas City (1982-88), Cleveland (1988-90, 95), Toronto (1990) and San Francisco (1991-94). He also played in two American League Championship Series with Kansas City (1984-85) and was member of Royals 1985 World Championship team.
