WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Chemeketa 36 vs. Clackamas 55

Clackamas rallied from a five point halftime deficit and went on to win their first ever NWAACC women's basketball championship with a 55-36 triumph over Chemeketa.  The Cougars were led by Cindy Alldrin who scored a game high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, good enough for Most Valuable Player honors.  Lindsay Calmettes added 12 points and Ashley Cadotte grabbed 19 rebounds for the Cougars who finished the season at 26-4.  The Storm, who shot 3 for 34 from the floor in the second half (9%), got 17 points from Annie Hartle and nine from Julie Melcher.  Hartle and Courtney Bothum had nine rebounds each for Chemeketa (22-8) who became the second straight defending NWAACC champion to lose in the title game.

Peninsula 99 vs. Tacoma 60 (men)

In the game for 3rd place, Peninsula came out with a lot of intensity. Tacoma looked flat only shooting 23% from the floor and possibly still feeling the effects of Sunday's last second loss to Mt. Hood. Peninsula leading by 22 points at the half kept the pressure on Tacoma scoring 25 points of turnovers, and shooting 58% from the 3-point line. Marques Echols of Peninsula led all scorers with 21 points.

Lane 57 vs. Umpqua 72 (women)
In the women's 3rd place game, the Timberwomen controlled the game from beginning to end, leading by as many as 22. The Titans made a late second-half run led by LeeAnne Genovese and Domonique King came within 10 and Umpqua held them there. The Timberwomen were led by Devina Brooks, Micaela Williams and Lindsey Heard who scored 17, 17 and 18 pointes respectively. This is Umpqua's fifth 3rd place finish in the NWAACC Basketball Championship.

Skagit Valley 44 vs. Centralia 63 (women)

Led by Nikki Johnson with 23 points and 11 rebounds, the Trailblazers exploded for 41 points in the second-half to defeat the Cardinals 63-44 after being tied 22 at half-time. Centralia dominated the boards grabbing 51 rebounds. Skagit Valley finishes 7th for the tournament while Centralia takes home the 4th place trophy.

Edmonds 61 vs Walla Walla 70 (men)
In the second game of the day, Walla Wall pulled away from the Tritons in the last three minutes of the contest to win 4th place in the tournament. The game was another close one with 15 leads changes and eight ties. The Warriors were led by Robert Pankowski and Matt Kelly who scored 16 points each. Edmonds finishes 7th for the tournament. The difference for Walla Walla was their free throw shooting (88.9%, 16/18) and points off turnovers (18).

Clackamas 81 vs. Big Bend 73

Clackamas defeated the Big Bend Runnin' Vikes with 24 points from Brandon Gill and 22 points from Alex Swerzbin. The Cougars and Vikings were played evnely the whole game with 12 lead changes and 9 ties. Clackamas took the lead for the final time with 1:53 remaining. The Cougars complete an excellent season finishing 5th in the tournament with a 22-8 record. Big Bend (19-11) finishes 8th.

Yakima Valley 63 vs Walla Walla 73

In the 5th place game, the Yaks faced the Warriors in a very close game. At half-time the Warriors led 44-39 66.7% shooting from the 3-point field going 8/12 .The Warriors, led by Laura Sprague who scored 31, 9/13 from the 3-point line. The Yaks kept Walla Walla within striking distance the entire game but could not overcome the Warriors. The Yaks take 8th for the tournament and the Warriors take home the 5th place trophy.

Day Three Results

Skagit Valley 84 vs. Clackamas 87 (men)

Clackamas won an exciting contest despite having been under the Cardinals suffocating defense. Once Clackamas took the lead with five minutes left to play, the game was tight till the very end. Clackamas survives to play Monday for 5th place against Big Bend at 11:00 AM. The Cardinals suffer a heartbreaking loss after winning in overtime late Saturday night. The Cougars Brandon Gill led all scorers with 27 points.

Spokane 54 vs.Yakima 57 (women)

Yakima Valley beat the Sasquatch for the third time this season, this time eliminating them from the tournament with a 57-54 score despite shooting 34% from the field compared to Spokane's 43%.  Dacia Murillo had 13 points for the Yaks (23-7) while Brianna Hillard scored 12 and Ladonna Downs grabbed 12 rebounds.  CCS (18-10) were led by Carly Syverson with 21 points and Heidi Horobiowski with 19 points.

Lower Columbia 101 vs. Peninsula 75 (men)
Lower Columbia managed to keep Peninsula in-check for the entire game by capitalizing on a fast start, building a 17 point lead in the first-half. The Pirates never quit and whittled the 17 point to 6 by the end of the first half. Getting within 2 as the clock showed 16:54 remaining was Peninsula's last glimpse of Lower Columbia as the Red Devils gradually pulled away to their biggest lead of 26. The Red Devils were led by Bryan Freshwater who had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Lower Columbia will make its 4th NWAACC Championship game, the first appearance since 1991. Since the tournament began in 1965, Lower Columbia has yet to win the championship game in 25 total tournament appearances. Peninsula will play Tacoma for 3rd place Monday at 3:00 PM. Lower Columbia will face Mt Hood at 8:00 PM.

Lane 47 vs. Chemeketa 62 (women)
The Storm returns to the championship game with their 62-47 semifinal victory over Lane.  Leading the way for Chemeketa (22-7) was Courtney Bothum (17 points and eight rebounds),  Nichole Nicholson (16 points) and Julie Melcher (14 points and six assists).  LeeAnn Genovese and Domonique King had 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Lane (22-7).

Tacoma 65 vs. Mt Hood 67 (men)
In the first game to decide who will be playing in Monday's Championship game, the Mt. Hood Saitns defeated the Tacoma Titans to earn their first championship game appearance since 1994 on a last second tip by Trevor Hutton. Mt. Hood's bench led the way with 37 points to Tacoma's 8. Marcus Whittaker led all scorers with 16 points. Tacoma controlled most of the game and led by as many as 10 points until Corey Lowe made a putback with 11:41 left in the second-half. From then on, the game went back and forth until the final seconds. Mt. Hood will play the winner of the Lower Columbia/Peninsula game at 6:00PM.

Clackamas 83 vs. Umpqua 75 (women)

Clackamas outscored the Timberwomen by eight points in the second half and went on to beat UCC 83-75 and make their first championship appearance since 1997.  Somer Erickson had 21 points, Cindy Alldrin scored 18 and Ashley Cadotte and Lindsay Calmettes added 16 points each for the Cougars (25-4).  Umpqua was hurt when one of their top players fouled out with under 15 minutes left in the game.  UCC (24-6) was led by Devina Brooks, Micaela Williams and Brittney Brown who had 21, 14 and 13 points respectively.

Chemeketa 79 vs. Walla Walla 85
Walla Walla won a close game against the Chemeketa Storm to advance into the 4th place game against Edmonds Monday at 1:00 PM. Walla Walla received 45 points from Ryan Pankowski who is on track to break the tournament record for scoring held by Bernie Fryer (Peninsula, 1970) at 124. Pankowski has scored a total of 104 points in three games and leads the tournament with an 34.7 ppg average. Chemeketa was in control of the game since minute 4 of the first-half until 5:47 left in the second-half when Walla Walla took the lead for good. The Storm ends their season with a balanced team effort, six players scored in double-digits.

Skagit Valley 67 vs Lower Columbia 45
The Cardinals (21-6) held LCC jumped out to a 20-2 lead to start the game and went on to beat the Red Devils 66-45.  Sarah Kuipers had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead SVC while Kelli Kosa added 16.  Sara Burgoyne topped Lower Columbia (21-7) with 10 points.

Linn-Benton 73 vs. Edmonds 94 (men)
The Edmond Tritons took control from the start and defeated Linn-Benton , ending the Roadrunners first trip to the NWAACC Tournament. Edmonds was led by Daniel Forbes who had 24 points. All scorers were led by Linn-Benton's Ryan Schmidt with 30. Edmonds advances to Monday's 4th place game at 1:00 PM.

Centralia 73 vs. Shoreline 66 (women)
In a tightly contested game, Centralia defeated Shoreline to end the Dolphins season. Centralia led by as many as 14 in the second-half, but Shoreline made it a 1- point contest with 2:34 left. Centralia outscored the Dolphins 9-3 to end the game. Centralia's Nicki Johnson led all scorers with 27 points. The Trailblazers advance to Monday's 5th place game at 11:00 AM.

Big Bend 75 vs. Centralia 73 (men)
Coming down the stretch, Centralia came from seven down with 5:00 left to tie the game at 73-73 off the leadership of Virgil Mathews who scored 8 straight points and an assist to Suzie for the tie at 1:17. With 1.8 seconds left, Brian Kast scored a lay-up to put the Vikings up 75-73. On the final play, Centralia's efforts to get the ball cleanly to Mathews was by well defended and the clock ran out on the Trailblazers season while the Vikings advance Monday to play for 5th place Monday at 11:00 AM. Big Bend received significant production from the bench with 26 points. All scorers were led by Mathews with 41. Big Bend was led by Daniel McFaul with 19.

Wenatchee 70 vs. Walla Walla 77 (women)
Just before halftime, the Lady Knights erased a 10-point deficit to tie the game at 30. Walla Walla who controlled the game for most of the first-half took over again in the second, rebuiling their double digit lead and holding off Wenatchee for the remainder of the second half. Walla Walla had an excellent team effort from Laura Sprague, Raysa Parker and Aundrea Morrizon who scored 17, 16 and 20 points respectively. Nikki Haerling led all scored with 29 points in the Lady Knights final game of the year. Walla Walla goes on to the 5th place game Monday at 11:00 AM.

Saturday's Results
Spokane vs. Skagit Valley (men)
The Cardinals outscored Spokane 19-9 in overtime and came out with a 94-84 victory.  Landon Lockard led the way for SVC (13-16) with 27 points, Craig Britt had 17 points, Bobby Turman scored 14 and Andy Anderson added 11.  The Sasquatch (16-13) had Matt Bauscher, Kyle Janke, Daniel Bright and De'Juan Ashley score 26, 15, 12 and 10 points respectively.

Spokane vs. Everett (women)

Katie Rodgers' 30 points and nine rebounds helped Spokane defeat the Trojans 75-62.  Rodgers was 10 for 17 from the floor and 10 for 11 from the free throw line.  Heidi Horobiowski added 15 points for the Sasquatch (18-9).  Hilary Wick led Everett (13-16) with 24 points while Michelle Sullivan and Amanda Kerr scored 13 each.

Chemeketa vs. Lower Columbia (men)
Chris Bannish scored 20 points and Brian Freshwater had 15 as the Red Devils advanced to the semifinals with a 65-58 victory over Chemeketa.  Steven Trotter added 12 points for Lower Columbia, now 24-5.  Leading the Storm (24-6) were Chris Botez and Josh Downey with 14 points each.

The Titans became the fourth Southern Region team to advance to the semifinals with a 67-38 win against Lower Columbia.  Dominique King and Kailee Short led Lane (22-6) with 15 ands 14 points respectively.  Jessica Grubb had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Lower Columbia (21-6).

Peninsula vs. Walla Walla
(men)
Shooting 49% from the field helped Peninsula advance to the semifinals for the first time in 34 years with a 75-53 win over the Warriors.  Luke Oleson led the way for the Pirates (22-6) with 16 points and seven rebounds.  Max Eding had 15 points while Brandon Lord added 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Robert Pankowski had 22 points and seven rebounds, and Justin Fraser had 18 points for WWCC (18-9).

The Storm took a 17-point halftime lead and turned it into a 76-55 victory over SVC.  Annie Hartle had a game high 18 points for Chemeketa (21-7) while Kristin Gunderson, Julie Melcher and Courtney Bothum had 16, 15 and 11 points respectively. Melcher and Bothum also had six assists each.  The Cardinals (20-6) were led by Kelli Kosa's 13 points.

Tacoma vs. Linn-Benton (men)
Tacoma was down by eleven points in the first half then were up by as much as 27 points in the second half before defeating the Roadrunners 87-76.  Marcus Whittaker led the Titans (16-13) with 21 points while Rob Crawford and Kendrick Holley both scored 13.  Ryan Schmidt led LBCC (12-15) with a game high 21 points while Michael Braziel and Tommy Bain each had 10 points.

Brittney Brown scored 19 points to help the Timberwomen into the semifinals with a 76-59 win over Centralia.  Micaela Williams had 12 points while Lindsey Heard added 10 points and 17 rebounds for UCC (24-5).  The Trailblazers (22-7) were led by Erica Miskar with 11 points and Cristy Cooper with 10 points.

Edmond vs. Mt Hood (men)

Two free throws by Ryan Hiel with 44 seconds remaining turned out to be the winning points as Mt. Hood outlasted the Tritons 73-71.  The Saints (20-8) were led by T.J. Davis who had 16 points and eight rebounds.  Trevor Hutton added 15 points, Tyson Papenfuss scored 11 and Jeremy Wyatt had 10.  Edmonds (20-8) was led by Travis Fridrich's 16 points and 14 each from Chris Keller and Tyler MacMullen.

Shoreline vs. Clackamas (women)

Clackamas moved on to the semi-finals with a 68-54 victory over the Dolphins.  The Cougars (24-4) were led by the 21 points from Cindy Alldrin and 11 each from Somer Erickson, Ashley Storms and Ashley Cadotte.  Ebonee Newson led Shoreline (21-7) with 19 points and 14 rebounds while Reyna Gross, Kamela Lyons and Amanda Merkley had 10 points each.

Highline vs. Clackamas (men)
The Cougars jumped out to a 17-point halftime lead but had to hold off a second half charge by Highline to defeat the Thunderbirds 79-69.  Steve Lemma led Clackamas (20-8) with 15 points followed by 14 for Brandon Gill, 11 by Ammon Bemis and 10 from Cole Kieling.  Tavar Proctor had a game high 21 points for HCC (14-14).  Kellen Williams had 15 points and 14 rebounds while Zenrique Tellez and Lucas Eaton scored 10 points each.

Green River vs. Yakima (women)

Ladonna Downs registered game highs of 27 points and 18 rebounds as the Yaks beat Green River 74-61.   YVCC (22-7) also got 11 points from Bianna Hilliard.  The Gators (15-14) were led by Maranda Broadbrooks, who had 25 points and Jenelle Day who scored 10.

Seattle vs. Big bend (men)

Dan Stosich had a game high 28 points and hit the winning free throw with 27 seconds remaining as the Vikings (18-10) eliminated Seattle.  Brian Kast had 16 points, Daniel McFaul scored 10 while Stosich and Brett Pflugrath each grabbed 13 rebounds.  The Storm (16-12), who had two shots fall short in the game's final seconds, got 17 points from Tony Lopez and 16 points from Craig Schweikl.

Whatcom vs. Walla Walla (women)
The Warriors (22-5) jumped to a 15-point lead at the half and went on to beat Whatcom 83-73 behind Aundrea Morrison's 20 points and nine rebounds.  Andra Peterson added 12 points while Raysa Parker scored 11.  Sara Hanson had a game-high 30 points for the Orcas (16-13) while Erin Anderson, Tiffany Passe and Natasha Combs had 13, 12 and 10 points respectively.

Centralia vs. Columbia Basin (men)

The Trailblazers leaped out to a 30-9 lead and never looked back as they defeated tournament host Columbia Basin 79-71.  Sean Russell paved the way for Centralia (16-12) with 27 points and nine rebounds.  Virgil Matthews chipped in with 22 points and eight rebounds while Tyler Sundby scored 16.  Robbie Haynie led the Hawks with 25 points, Keegan Cook scored 17 and Josh E. Williamson had 16.  CBC finished their season at 13-13.

Highline vs. Wenatchee (women)
WVC (16-12) rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to beat the Thunderbirds 65-47 behind Nikki Haerling's game high 31 points and Nancy Hill's nine rebounds.  Highline, which ended their season at 13-14, were led by the 16 points from Michelle Aurelio.

Lower Columbia vs. Skagit Valley (men)

Steven Trotter had 17 points and 12 rebounds as Lower Columbia defeated the Cardinals 78-60.  Bryan Freshwater and Chris Bannish each scored 16 points for LCC (23-5).  Skagit Valley (11-17) was led by Landon Lockard's 16 points and Andy Anderson's 12.

Lower Columbia led from the opening tip-off and cruised to a 61-47 triumph over the Trojans.  Jessica Grubb led LCC (21-5) with 19 points and nine rebounds while Sara Burgoyne added 11 points and Lacey Nobles scored 10.  Hilary Wick led Everett (13-15) with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Chemeketa vs. Spokane (men)

Chemeketa outshot the Sasquatch 45% to 28% from the field to earn the 74-64 victory.  Logan Garvin had 18 points, Greg O'Neal added 16 points while Chris Botez and Niko Klansek scored 13 and 11 points respectively to lead the Storm (24-5).  Matt Bauscher had 29 points and Nate Breshears grabbed 12 rebounds for Spokane (16-12).

The Titans built a 13-point halftime lead and went on to defeat Spokane 68-53.  Chelsey Brock's game high 25 points along with 15 points and 12 rebounds from Ashley Sequeria elevated Lane's overall record to 21-6.  Heidi Horobiowski had 20 points and Katie Rodgers added 12 points for the Sasquatch (17-9).

Walla Walla vs. Clackamas (men)

Robert Pankowski scored 37 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Walla Walla (18-8) turned a one-point halftime lead into an eleven-point victory over the Cougars.  Justin Fraser added 15 points, Matt Kelly had 14 and Zach Danelson had 11 to help the Warriors shoot 49% from the floor for the game.  Clackamas (19-8) got 21 points from Brandon Gill while Alex Swerzbin and Steve Lemma added 18 and 14 points respectively.

The Storm (20-7) opened their defense of their NWAACC championship with a 22-point win in their tourney opener with Yakima Valley.  Julie Melcher paved the way for Chemeketa with a game high 20 points while Courtney Bothum added 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Ladonna Downs led the Yaks (21-7) with 11 points.

Skagit Valley began their 24th NWAACC Basketball Tournament with their 40th tourney victory by beating the Gators 53-44.  The Cardinals (20-5) held Green River to 19% shooting from the field as they were led by the 16 points and 10 rebounds from Sarah Kuipers.  Angela Cornejo and Ashlie Burlingame had 11 and 10 points respectively.  Jackie Bykonen and Jennell Day scored 10 each for GRCC (15-13).

Big Bend vs. Linn-Benton (men)
One of the biggest upsets in NWAACC Tournament history happened as Linn-Benton (12-14) stunned the Vikings. The Roadrunners held the NWAACC's second highest scoring team (90.8 points a game) to 39% shooting from the floor. Ryan Schmidt's 23 points and seven rebounds were supported by 14 points from Bobby Schindler and 10 from Jake Espinoza. Daniel McFaul topped BBCC (17-10) with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Walla Walla vs. Umpqua (women)
In the tightest game played so far, Umpqua (23-5) outlasted the Warriors 64-59.  LaMesha Walker led the Timberwomen with 19 points and seven rebounds while Lindsey Heard added 15 points.  Aundrea Morrison topped Walla Walla (21-5) with a game high 26 points.  It was the fourth straight year that the two teams met in the NWAACC Tournament and UCC's first win between the two teams.

Tacoma vs. Seattle (men)
In the days best game so far, the Tacoma Titans(13-4) executed in the final minutes to come away with a 82-79 victory over Seattle (16-11). The game was close throughout with neither team taking control. The Titans were led by Barry Jones and Marcus Whitaker who scored 22 and 21 points respectively. Criag Schwikl scored 21 points in a losing effort for Seattle.

Whatcom vs. Centralia (women)
The Trailblazers (22-6) led by 20 points at halftime and cruised to a 69-50 win over Whatcom.  All ten Blazer players scored led by Nikki Johnson's 18 points and Sharee Robinson's 12 points and nine rebounds.  Porcia Jackson led the Orcas (16-12) with 13 points while Sara Hanson added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Mt. Hood vs. Columbia Basin (men)
Mt. Hood pulled away from Columbia Basin College to beat the Hawks 100-87 and advance to the next round. The Saints (19-8) were led by Gregg Barlow's 22 points and 20 points from Trevor Hutton. Keegan Cook and Kris Groce had 21 and 20 points respectively for CBC (13-12) which fell behind by as much as 24 in the second half despite tremendous support from it's homebase fans.

The Cougars had four players score in double figures as they coasted to a 76-59 triumph over WVC.  Clackamas (23-4), who shot 53% from the floor compared to Wenatchee Valley's 36%, were led by Cindy Alldrin's game high 21 points.  Somer Erickson and Lindsay Calmettes each had 16 points and Ashley Cadotte added 13 points and eight rebounds.  Nikki Haerling led the Knights (16-12) with 19 points.

Josh Wood had a game high 24 points as Edmonds advanced to the next round by defeating Centralia 76-70. Tyler MacMullen added 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Tritons (20-7). The Trailblazers (15-12) were led by Virgil Matthews' 21 points and Sean Russell's 19.

Playing their first ever women's tournament game in school history, Shoreline recovered from a slow start (six points in the first ten minutes) and used 52 second half points for a 79-59 victory.  Reyna Gross led the Dolphins (21-6) with a game high 24 points and nine assists while Ebonee Newson added 20 points and 14 rebounds.  Taryn Plypick and Michelle Aurelio had 12 points each for Highline (13-14).
