NWAACC Softball raises $820 for Wellness House in support of cancer aid

The NWAACC Softball Crossover held on April 21-22 in Yakima helped raise $820 for the Wellness House, an organization that provides information, support, and a community to help families living with cancer.

"Thank you for another terrific year with the NWAACC Swinging For a Cure Tournament," exclaimed Wellness House executive director Margaret Filkins. "We raised $820 this year, which is very similar to the proceeds in 2011.  As a small not-for-profit who provides all of our services for free, your event will make a very positive impact on the community.  In 2011, we provided services and support to over 6,600 clients, as well as their family and friends, when faced with the diagnosis of cancer or other life-challenging illness.

The NWAACC Swinging For a Cure Tournament will help us continue to provide such programs as Support Groups, Counseling, the Wig & Hat Boutique (Free wigs, hats and scarves to chemotherapy patients), Cancer Care Boutique (Free supplies for women post-mastectomy), Hands on Healing (Massage and healing for clients in pain), Bereavement and our newest program, Kids in the House (Field trips, therapy and activities for kids when an adult in their life has been diagnosed with cancer).

We appreciate the opportunity to work with you and all of the amazing community college teams that we get to meet each year!  Our staff and many of our volunteers look forward to this Tournament and we are pleased to know that it will return in 2013.  Best wishes to all of the teams, volunteers and staff that make this a successful event!"
