Chris Werner takes the reins of Umpqua Volleyball

Winchester, OR -- Umpqua athletic director Cheryl Yoder has announced that Chris Werner is the new head coach for Umpqua Community College volleyball.

Prior to becoming a RiverHawk, Werner was a head coach at Pocatello Elite for the last 8 years as-well-as the club's director.

Most recently his 18's National Team received a bid to the Junior Olympic National Championships by winning the Colorado Crossroads National Qualifier, taking 3rd place out of 200 teams at the Las Vegas Presidents Day tournament, and 3rd place in Spokane, WA at the Pacific Northwest National Qualifier.

This year's team has an impressive 27-2 record at National Qualifiers.

While at Pocatello Elite, Werner was responsible for the recruitment of many of his Pocatello Elite players to various universities including many Division I schools.

Werner has experience coaching volleyball camps throughout the Western US, with collegiate and high school coaches, and is CAP I certified in Beach Volleyball.

"Chris would like to thank Tawna Ellis for her mentoring, partnership, the opportunity and experiences the Pocatello Elite Family has given him. He plans on expanding the club into Southern Oregon as-well-as running summer camps and clinics for Jr. High and High School athletes."
