Coaches Outlook

Another exciting year of Cougar Volleyball is here already. The Cougs have been looking forward and preparing for this season since we left the court in ’08. With four strong returning sophomores, we have the leadership we need to set the tone for another great season.

Sophomore all-region middle blocker Shikara "Shaq" White has been working very hard on her aggressive swing and has really progressed in the off season. She is able to do much more in the middle this year and will have to fill the shoes of departed All-American middle Kristel Baeckel who graduated in '08. Returning all-region setter Richelle Heacock is the quarterback of this year's squad and will run an all impressive 5-1 offense to lead the Cougar attack. Sophomore outside hitter Joanna Abraham is the natural leader of this year’s team. Her arm swing is also improved and she will be versatile in the front row. Rounding out the returning players is a versatile player in Vanity Massey. Vanity can play outside and defense and she should see more playing time this season.

The Cougars will be joined by a talented freshmen class. Carmen LaFond, Kylee Perez, Charley Gilbert, Caitlin Howard, Kelli Gamble and Rachael Strong should all see valuable playing time for Clackamas in ‘09.

This year’s squad will showcase the perennially tough Clackamas defense that keeps the Cougars in the hunt for the NWAACC title each year.
