Coaches Outlook

Doug Carlson enters his first season as the Raider Volleyball Head Coach. A college, high school, and club coach for the past 20 years, Carlson took over the program when Paige Ellertson resigned to go to the East Coast as her husband was given an appointment to teach at West Point. Carlson is joined by assistant coach Kylie Jeffers, the Raiders two-time all-league setter and NWAACC Western Division MVP. Three sophomores return for the 2010 Volleyball squad: Chelsea Olivas, libero and 4th week defensive player of the week last year; Lauren Komarzec, setter and 6th week defensive player of the week; and Nissa McCormack, starting middle and right side hitter. The team has eight freshman: Sheanee Gago, an outside hitter from Rogers H.S., who was Rogers’ offensive player of the year; Khrysten Harr, a middle hitter from Washington H.S., a second team all-league performer from the Nisqually League; Amanda Joslin, a middle hitter from Rogers H.S., Rogers’ most improved player from last year; Katrina McClaflin, a libero/defensive specialist who started on the Tumwater H.S. 2008 state champions and was a first team all-state performer; Emma Nakamura, a libero/defensive specialist from Rogers H.S., who was an honorable mention all-league performer from the South Puget Sound League; Jennifer Rea, a middle/outside hitter from Tacoma Baptist H.S., who is also playing basketball for the Raiders, and was a first team all-league performer from the Sea-Tac League; Allie Tonzi, an outside hitter from Gig Harbor H.S., who was a first team all-league performer from the Narrows League; and Amanda Warner, an outside hitter who was the MVP of the state tournament when Tumwater H.S. won the state championship in 2008. The 2010 Raiders aim to be competitive, and to give their all every match!
