EVERETT 3 PIERCE 2 stats
LONGVIEW— On a very sunny Memorial Day, both teams were in high spirits about their chances at a championship. Both pitching staffs hit the reset button and sent their day one starters out to try and secure a birth to the final game.
In the 3rd inning, Matt Thompson singled home Gunnar Schubert to give Pierce a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 4th, Everett retook the lead on a double from Tanner Arrington and a single by Peyton Cordova-Smith to make it 2-1 Everett.
Both Alex Gray and Colten Barnes pitched strongly into the 7th inning but the Trojans added an insurance run off of Barnes on a called balk that brought Tate Budnick home.
Pierce came close in the 9th with a bases loaded balk from Gray but he coaxed Jacob Winn into a pop up to right to end the ball game.
Gray recorded his second complete game of the tournament throwing 9 innings while giving up just the 2 runs on 12 hits and striking out 8.
Everett advances to the championship game to face Yakima Valley at 3:00pm. The winner of that game will be crowned 2016 NWAC champion.
