King's guard Ian Tevis named ACAC Player of the Year

MEDICINE HAT, AB. (March 1, 2017) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Ian Tevis of the Red Deer College Kings has been selected as the 2016-17 ACAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

The RDC Kings guard has had a strong all-around season, as he is the second leading scorer in the ACAC and is ranked third in steals. Tevis also averages 7.0 rebounds per game and is a 41% three-point shooter. "Ian has achieved these numbers without being in the top 25 for minutes per game," says RDC Kings Basketball Head Coach, Clayton Pottinger. "If you extrapolate his numbers over more minutes, you can see why he's considered one of the best players in the nation." Tevis is the only RDC King to ever receive this award.

Originally from Kent, Washington, Tevis played for the Edmonds Community College Tritons before coming to Red Deer College last season. Now in his fourth year of eligibility, Pottinger notes that the Kinesiology & Sport Studies student has grown and developed in his leadership and academics during his two years at RDC, and he has also had stand-out performances on the court. "One of Ian's highlights with the Kings was a 42-point performance versus Medicine Hat, which helped us to a 99-96 victory," he says.

"It's great to see Ian acknowledged for his strong season," says Diane St-Denis, RDC Athletic Director. "He's the first Kings Basketball player to receive this honour in over a decade, and it means a great deal to our basketball program and to RDC Athletics as a whole to have our student-athletes recognized for their high level of play within the ACAC."

This prestigious award was presented to Tevis at the 2017 ACAC Men's Basketball Championship Banquet held on March 1st at Medicine Hat College. Tevis will now represent the ACAC in the CCAA Player of the Year selection process.
