NWAC & Under Armour Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 7
MITCH LINES • LOWER COLUMBIA
SOPHOMORE • PITCHER
Mitch Lines, Hockinson HS, Battle Ground, WA.
Lower Columbia ace Mitch Lines turned in an outstanding performance during a pivotal weekend of West Region play. In a 9-0 win, Lines pitched 7 strong innings only allowing 2 hits and striking out 9. The win gives him a 5-1 record on the year with a 2.17 ERA for LCC who is tied for 1st with rival Tacoma.
"Mitch was once again efficient with four pitches for strikes, locating the fastball on both sides of the dish," said Red Devil head coach Eric Lane. "The most impressive part is his ability to compete and stay focused on each pitch."
NWAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK - MAY 8
Garrett Gants, Newport HS, Bellevue, WA.
Freshman outfielder Garrett Gants helped lead Bellevue to a playoff berth this weekend from both sides of the plate. The switch hitter hit .636 in four games including 2 doubles, a triple and 2 home runs. His 9 RBIs helped the Bulldogs take 3 of 4 on weekend to push them one game back of 2nd place Edmonds. Gants is currently top 5 in the NWAC in doubles and triples.
"Gants has been one of our top freshmen to contribute immediately because of his poise he carries as an athlete," said Bulldog head coach Mark Yoshino. "Garrett's been the poster child of what we've preached to our freshmen-loaded squad that is having a lights out season so far, 'Just because we're young doesn't mean we can't be good. Why wait til next year when we have the talent to be good now.'"
