Ernie was a cross country and track athlete during the 1994 and 1995 seasons at Clark College. During his time at Clark, Ammons won five NWAACC titles on the track and was the 1995 Cross Country champion. On the track, he was a two-time champion in the 10,000m and the 3,000m steeplechase. During his second year, he added the 5,000m and was the High Point Award Winner. After finishing at Clark, Ammons went on to compete for Washington State University. At WSU, he was All-Pac 10 in the steeplechase and was also named team captain for the 1997 season. Ernie is currently in his seventh year as a Health and Fitness teacher at Kent Meridian High School in Kent, Washington where he is the head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach for both Men and Women. Ernie and his wife Tori have two daughters, Eva, age 11, and Mia, age 6.
