Bill Johnson attended Richland High School and was a three-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball. He earned 1st team All-State honors in both football and baseball and All-State Honorable Mention in basketball his senior year.

Bill competed in three sports at Columbia Basin College (CBC) before receiving a baseball scholarship at the University of Idaho where he earned All-Pacific Coast Conference honors as a shortstop.

After graduation and playing one year of professional baseball for the Tri-City Braves, Bill taught and coached three sports at Connell High School. His baseball teams won three Yakima Valley A League Championships, and during his two seasons as football coach, he won league championships including a 9-0 record his second year.

Coach Johnson came to Spokane Falls Community College in 1968 to teach physical education classes and to serve as head baseball coach. During his 11 years at the helm his teams compiled a 217-173 record. After stepping down as head coach, Bill has been an assistant basketball and softball coach and taught 30 years before retiring. He is a member of the NWAACC and CCS Halls of Fame.
