Dusty Lane was a graduate of Cashmere High School where he had won seven state titles in his high school track and field career and was the state wrestling champion as a sophomore.

He became one of the best community college track and field athletes of all time while at CCS, winning the NWAACC Decathlon title in both 1997 and 1999. He scored 42 individual points in his first year and 49 in his second, being named Male Athlete of the Meet both times.

He won ten events at the conference meet in his two years, as well as setting NWAACC records in the 400 IM’s, 100m and 200m events. He won the Mt. Sac Decathlon in 1999 with the third highest mark in junior college history and gaining twelve junior college All-American honors.

Lane led the Sasquatch back to the dominance of the 1970’s and 80’s, helping lead CCS to two NWAACC championships in his career.

One of the top two-year track and field athletes in the nation in 1999, Lane had accepted a full NCAA scholarship at the University of Alabama before he lost his life in a tragic rafting accident in June of 1999.
