Playing baseball for the Red Devils of Lower Columbia College, Jim O'Dell was named the 1981 NWAAACC West Division Player of the Year and was a member of the 81 NWAACC championship team.

O'Dell went on to a stellar career at Lewis & Clark State College where he was a Gold Spikes Finalist and was named the 1983 NAIA Player of the Year. He stil holds the NAIA single season RBI record with 136 and in 1983, he batted .423, scored 100 runs, 117 hits, 25 doubles, 30 home runs, 59 walks, and only 7 strikeouts.

O'Dell was drafted multiple times by MLB and played professionally until 1988. He is currently an assistant coach at Pierce College and was an assistant with Skagit Valley College.
