In his two years at Umpqua Community College, Anthony Stewart led Umpqua Community College to 52 wins and 12 losses (only one home loss and best in school history). UCC was the Southern Region Champions both years (1987-88 and 1988-89) and finished second at NWAACC tournament (1988-89) and fourth place in 1987-88. As a freshman,
Anthony averaged 21.6 points (52% FG; 82% FT), 2.3 rebounds and 5.5
assists per game. As a sophomore, he was even better at 27 points (51% FG; 82% FT), 2.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. Anthony was a
tremendous 3 point shooter during that period of time before it became very popular. As a freshman he shot 60 – 144 for 42% and as a sophomore he shot 84 – 197 for 40% (he still holds the record for 3 point shots made).
Anthony has an even bigger influence on the Umpqua Community
college and its community. He was extremely quick and an exciting
player to watch and drew large crowds to home games. To this day,
Anthony is considered the best men’s player to suit up at Umpqua.
Anthony went on to play for Grand Canyon College. He continued to excel following up his UCC career with a very good junior year while continuing to pursue dream of playing Division 1 basketball. Anthony then transferred to Weber State University and started at shooting guard averaging 16 points per game his senior year.
